Sleeping in the backwash of God

Last symphony of a sad ghost.

(Formed in Macon, Georgia, United States in 1999 by K.Angylus (R.I.P. 2008) and M.Dragynfly. The Angelic Process produced music over an eight year period and they are considered as one of the pioneers and figureheads of the extreme music style called ambient drone metal).

Exploring dark passages of loneliness

In ascension to the mountain of past pains.

(The Myrrors is an experimental/psychedelic folk-rock band from from the Arizona desert).

Reaching maximum entropy

Altering the Brownian motion of the rarefied atmosphere.

(Although the roots of Hardcore Anal Hydrogen are in metal and contemporary music, Hardcore Anal Hydrogen’s music covers many genres. Constantly changing songs structures and eclecticism are a constant since the creation of the band. Hardcore Anal Hydrogen is born in 2009, from the meeting of Martyn Clement and Sacha Valony. The duo offers a 40-minutes uncommun musical experience, navigating through styles, instruments, and paying tribute to great artists such as Steve Reich, The Beatles, Meshuggah, Aphex Twin, Jean Michel Jarre, Pierre Henry, Little Richard, John Coltrane, George A. Romero, Napalm Death, to quote a few).

Dancing into a ring of fire

Slowly approaching death.

(The Klinik is a pioneer Belgian EBM/Industrial band. Consisted of Marc Verhaegen and Dirk Ivens, original line-up also included Eric Van Wonterghem. Dirk Ivens left in 1990 to form Dive. Klinik continued in the solo person of Marc Verhaegen).

Psychopatic eyes bleeding

Feel the bloodlust of the female demonic choir.

(Oneiroid Psychosis is an American dark wave musical duo consisting of brothers Lars and Leif Hansen. Originally known simply as Psychosis, they were discovered by Decibel Records in 1993 and have been making music using the name Oneiroid Psychosis since. The music of Oneiroid Psychosis is known as some of the darkest in existence. Characterized by dark synth textures and thought-provoking lyrics and vocals - it is difficult to categorize them. Thus they became the originators of a new genre now known as Progressive Darkwave. The phrase "oneiroid psychosis" defines a pathologic state in which the subject has difficulty differentiating between reality and dreams).

Consequences of human errors

Desolation in the empty horizon.

(Harsh speednoise french one-man band guided by Antony Dokhac).

Watching the dusk sea

Joining the death's dance in the last sunrise.

(This album gives a new definition to the term "mail art." Ohio songwriter Jessica Bailiff and British electronica maven Dave Pearce have issued their collective, self-titled debut statement on the Kranky label after creating it via mailed tapes over the course of two years. Bailiff has issued three albums under her own name, all of them on Kranky. Pearce has released numerous recordings of his own compositions and mixes, some of them dodgy, Ibiza-styled affairs. Neither of them has been here before.
Both participants play guitars, keyboards, use effects and sundry percussion instruments. Bailiff's quiet, low-key yet tense songwriting is recognizable here, but barely. These haunted songs, such as "Death's Dance," with its droning electric guitars and white noise washouts employed elementally and incrementally, create a tension that refuses to resolve itself, placing the listener on the rough edges of something formative, not quite realized but compelling nonetheless. "Millennium Blues," with its whispering acoustic guitars gradually entering into a wash of seeming ocean sounds could be from an Ennio Morricone soundtrack.
Pearce's vocals come from the center of the ether to painstakingly, slowly, articulate poetic reflections on the state of life as knew it.. "Dusk" is unsettling it in use of open-tuned guitars left ringing as their sound is manipulated, distorted, and turned into a whistle-like drone before the sounds of the strings extend the textural balance once more, just before the close -- and then not entirely. The big drum loops and from-the-center-of-a-wind-tunnel vocals at the heart of "Open Road" send the album spiraling out on a near anthemic note, and leave the listener displaced, somehow no wiser, yet deeply moved by the entire experience. Transatlantic collaboration and the wonders of electronic tape have made for a very fine and original debut).

March of the heroes

Stomping through the victorious avenue.

(Boasting the unique personality of this Swedish combo, Arditi's music taps into the darker tones of Militaristic Neo-Classical ambiance that has become the band's trademark. Ever effective in their use of crushing orchestrations and evocative speeches, the band hereby drags the listener around muddy trenches, and casts a hypnotizing veil over the turmoil of warfare-inspired Industrial soundscapes. Spearheaded by Henry Möller and Marten Björkman, Arditi first came to light in 1997, inspired by the Italian Futurist Movement of the early 20th century).

Lethal dose of sleeping pills

Hymns dedicated to unpredictable sounds.

(Implodes are an experimental rock band from Chicago, Illinois. They combine elements of psychedelic, shoegaze, drone, ambient, and electronic into their densely atmospheric sound).

Enter the asylum of gods

Unction of the teacher of hermetic knowledge pillars.

(Blut Aus Nord is a black metal band from Mondeville, Calvados, France, which has incorporated avant-garde elements in its music. Vindsval began a solo project, under the name "Vlad", in 1993. Blut Aus Nord's work has been described as the "sonic equivalent to Thorns injecting Streetcleaner-era Godflesh with an evil unpredictability).

Blessed blood of a dying mother

Forget the sins, the hour is come.

(Death industrial band influenced by mental illness, disease, self-hatred, shame, failure and disgust for humanity. Abjection Ritual underwent a large stylistic shift prior to working on this album. The duo expanded to include more instrumentation while still maintaining electronic elements. The result is a fusion of harrowing death, doom, and sludge metal accentuated by harsh industrial and atmospheric tones. This sort of "Neurosis–Godflesh–Indian" triad is intriguing and makes songs like "Old Sins," the closing track to their album Soul Of Ruin, Body Of Filth, incredibly exciting. The finale runs nine and a half minutes—a fitting, momentous end to a captivating record. It's littered with harsh feedback and thunderous bass. Intermittent, industrial crashes serve as exclamation points for screamed verses. Much of the track's middle section features dark ambient soundscapes. Holistically speaking, it certainly feels very much like Enemy of the Sun-era Neurosis).

The fantasy into the myth

Caresses to the tortured skin ascend from the bottom of the sea.

(Ele Ypsis is the tortured child of distant artistic lovers that arises from the collaboration between French singer and composer Laure Le Prunenec (Öxxö Xööx, Igorrr, Corpo-Mente and Rïcin) and belgian composer and producer Stélian Derenne).

Open the white window of past times

Trapped into a labyrinth of whispering noises.

(There's a fascinating dichotomy inside of Black Earth, the first official album from Chicago quartet Implodes. Stylistically, it's almost schizophrenic-- tracks alternate between shoegaze, Krautrock, post-rock, experimental drone, and acoustic ambiance, and those modes don't often meet together in one place. Yet the overall mood is forcefully consistent, with a weight approaching gravitational pull. That tone is captured somewhat in the cover art's stark silhouettes, but even that image is a little too colorful for this hazy, shadow-filled sound-cloud. Whenever I listen, I picture the music emanating from a mesmerizing field of TV static, roughly like what the little girl stared into in Poltergeist's iconic image.

That may seem a bit overdramatic, but Implodes sound like they take their music pretty seriously, and they should. It's carefully crafted and wholly enveloping, a kind of dream-state atmosphere where vocals shiver behind layers of fuzz, rhythms detonate like underwater explosions, and acoustic guitars drift in and out like flashes of déjà vu. Some tracks on their own might sound a bit derivative-- "Marker"'s floating noise has a Slowdive tint, "Screech Owl" bears the spooky lurch of early Sonic Youth, and the slow melodrama of Mogwai slips into "Song for Fucking Damon II (Trap Door)". Others pass through corridors of the Kranky catalog, skirting spaces between Labradford, Bowery Electric, and Jessamine. But when fused together by Implodes' assured sense of narrative thrust, these songs are much more echoes than mimicry-- like an unfamiliar, moonlit landscape dotted with fleeting glimpses of past ghosts.

All of which makes for a pretty heavy listen. Dense, dark, and slow even when it's fast, Black Earth can get murky and claustrophobic, sucking in the air around it. There's a fine line between mesmerizing and depressing, and while I find myself squarely on the entranced side throughout, I can see where others might find the dimmer passageways more blinding than beckoning. But this is where the band's stylistic diversity helps. While a deep drone like "Oxblood" may burrow the center of the earth, it's immediately countered by the motoring sway of "Meadowlands", or the hymn-like buzz of "Wendy", or the lilting blur of "Experiential Report". Which is why the most interesting thing about Black Earth is what it bodes for Implodes' future. If they can already mold this many sounds into the same tonal shape, imagine what further sonic territory they might someday place their stamp on).

Hairy bubbles covering world

Epic encounter with Xenomorphs in a 8-bit battlefield.
(Having had their first tendinitis on the controllers and joysticks of all the game consoles of the 80s and having used miles of tapes by rewatching countless times VHS in their old video recorders, it is natural that the wags of Pryapisme accepted the challenge initiated by Macrales Studio: make the original soundtrack for the video game Epic Loon, the perfect game to play alone in your couch, with friends or with your cat (on Steam, Switch, Xbox One and PS4).

« Epic Loon OST » is a double album narrating the adventures of four aliens who invade pastiches of the 80s / 90s cult movies. The group was given carte blanche to put everything to music by drawing inspiration from the games and movies of the time, by sneakily sprinkling these with a little feline French Touch. The result is of course shameful, neither done nor to be done. At best, a plagiarism, at worst an abyssal artistic void).

Mask behind mask

Dark dances to dissolve reflections.

(Following on from the Coil-inducing 'The Coital Staircase' comes a surprise EP from Matt Fanale in the form of 'Stimulation'. With critically acclaimed albums such as 'The Golden Vagina Of Fame And Profit', 'The Man Who Couldn't Stop' and 'Industrial Music' under his belt it would forgivable if Fanale were to drop a few tracks that repeated previous successes. But instead we get a continuation from the more minimal and experimental sounds of the last single that takes what we thought Caustic was and once again moulds it into something new.

Featuring a more experimental and ambient textures, with a big does of old school minimal techno and ebm, but with a rhythmically pleasing core, the EP blends elements of Fanale's Jizzcore origins with analogue sounds (both melodic and dissonant) for thoughtful yet strangely infectious outing).

(Battle of Mice was a post-metal supergroup consisting of Julie Christmas (Made Out of Babies), Josh Graham (ex-Neurosis, ex-Red Sparowes, A Storm of Light), Joel Hamilton (Book of Knots), Tony Maimone (Book of Knots, Pere Ubu), and Joe Tomino (Fugees, Dub Trio, Peeping Tom). The band was formed when vocalist Julie Christmas and guitarist/keyboardist Josh Graham met in Austin, Texas while touring with their respective bands in 2005. The album, which was released under Neurot Recordings, contains seven tracks heavily influenced by the metal, post-rock and noise rock roots from which the group was derived. The song "At the Base of the Giant's Throat" features a recorded 911 call between vocal sections. The band's name is derived from a saying by Alexander the Great pertaining to a military invasion of Crete).

(Incredible compilation of Mika Vainio’s earliest work with Janne Koski and Tapio Onnela in pioneering Finnish industrial/noise unit Gagarin Kombinaatti circa 83-85. Vainio was just 20 when these recordings were made. Until now, the only locatable evidence of Gagarin-Kombinaatti’s existence was an intriguing listing on discogs - a single track featured on a 2CD of early Finnish avant-garde - but now Sähkö prove they were a real, and rather wicked band, taking strong cues from TG, Einstürzende Neubauten and Test Department, and moulding them into a brace of cranky, funked-up garage industrialisms. It’s very easy to hear Vainio’s signature noise laced throughout the collection, from the bladesaw blizzards of Survos, to the cold, clipped drums and brooding bass tone of Reikäkorttia, or the windswept atmospheres of Osat, for instance. But they’re only component elements of the band, which, thanks to the rudimentary recording techniques, sounds as though they’re soldered together, sparking up expressive, freeform jams ranging from the cold swagger of Tiedonantaja to proto-techno drum patterns and workshop noise in Ukaasi and the dirgey crawl of Raskas / Chemical Weapons).

(King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is an Australian psychedelic rock band that formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Victoria. The band consists of Stu Mackenzie (vocals, guitar, flute), Ambrose Kenny Smith (vocals, synths, harmonica), Cook Craig (guitar), Joey Walker (guitar, vocals), Lucas Skinner (bass), Eric Moore (drums, management), and Michael Cavanagh (drums). The band is noted for its energetic live performances and prolific recording output, having released thirteen full-length studio albums since 2012. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard's early work was primarily a blend of surf music, garage rock and psychedelic rock, while more recent releases show a broader range of influences, including elements of film music, progressive rock, folk, jazz, soul and heavy metal).

(Fanfare Ciocarlia are a 24-legged brass beast whose eastern funk groove has torn up halls and festivals across the planet. Their energy and ingenuity having won them fans from Melbourne to Memphis, Tokyo to Toulouse. Having learnt their craft at the feet of their fathers and grandfathers Fanfare's members proudly approach every concert as a challenge to both entertain audiences and keep the true spirit of Gypsy music alive. Fanfare Ciocarlia went on to conquer the USA, Europe, Asia and Australia. The Gypsies may only have spoken their local Romany dialect but their music spoke an international language and audiences responded to their fierce Balkan funk by turning concerts into parties. What Fanfare Ciocarlia played was something new. The Times of London described it as "a heavy, heavy monster sound" and Fanfare's recordings have taken their eerie Balkan groove into dance clubs across the planet).

(Side project from Godflesh's frontman Justin K. Broadrick; the name comes from the final song on the final Godflesh record, a fitting title for Justin's next foray into rock music. While virtually every side project was electronic-based, Jesu is guitar-based. In 2003 Justin began writing material for this project by himself. The initial tracks that would appear on the Heartache EP were performed solely by himself and reflect much of the time period of his life. By the end of 2003 however, a full band was put together, featuring Dermot Dalton on bass and Ted Parsons on drums. Both members played in Godflesh at one point or another).

Exploring the senses of earth

Destroyed nature claiming for rest.

(Orakle has always been about exploring, putting into perspective and even blurring the edges of the metal genre. Along the years, the band originating from the Paris suburbs patiently assembled the pieces of a very personal and multi-faceted approach to extreme music. Starting back in the middle of the 90’s, under the impulse of 14 yo friends Pierre Pethe (aka. Clevdh) and Frederic Gervais (aka. Achernar), it’s only in 2002, with the self-produced EP ‘‘L’ineffable émoi’’, that Orakle lays the foundation stone of their style: an epic, sophisticated black-metal built on contrasts and atmospheres, with French lyrics exclusively. In 2005, debut album ‘‘Uni aux cimes’’ takes the intensity of their music a step further, revealing Orakle in its rawest, most extreme shape. Three years later, the band gets signed by Holy Records and releases its second effort: the critically acclaimed ‘‘Tourments & Perdition’’, featuring refined, progressive and challenging black-metal. With a growing fanbase, Orakle then performs at numerous venues and festivals, including Hellfest in 2009).

(Founded in 2007 by Thibault, Abstrusa Unde is the result of a quest for several musical styles integration into a single entity. This project has been initially built to record a 70 minutes music piece based on the Orpheus Myth, exploring various musical landscapes from electro-jazz to black metal. The line-up included guitars, drums, keyboards, male and female singers, but also classical instruments such as violins and a cello. After nearly two years of work, the project seemed too ambitious for the group and was abandoned. Excerpts from "Orfeo" were recorded on a demo in June 2008. After a few lineup changes, Abstrusa Unde is back to work on new compositions less complex technically but still favoring the mixing of multiple influences. "Introspection", our first long-length recording, is showing several musical directions that we will continue to develop in the next album).

Throwing up in a black hole

(Heptaedium’s musical madness could be placed somewhere between Djent forefathers Meshuggah, Breakcore-Hero Igorrr, Master Plumber Super Mario and French Baguettes. This band is an artificial child of a world in ruins, maintained in its artificiality by multinationals trying to conquer space. Shaped by technology, it has implanted genes of Strapping Young Lad, Vildhjarta or Master Boot Record; out of his infected incubator, the metal cold as death, the kid is a creature in the image of his time. An offshoot more human, with the body that jerks and the mouth that opens on a precipice. His song is destructured, icy, purely technical. One listens to it with the impression of hearing a machine scream, a creeping snake, an indefinite form moving forward by jerks).

Végtelen spirálba esik

(Avantgarde/Post-Black Metal band from Debrecen, Hungary. Örvény (Hungarian for maelstrom) is the band’s second full-length release, and falls awkwardly into the post-metal genre, with plenty of nods to alt-rock and shoegaze to boot; walls of guitars (clean and distorted, sometimes awash in effects), furious drumming, and heartfelt singing all add up to deliver an engaging and accessible post-rock gem).

Sitting alone on red surface

(Daniel Riddle, the Portland, Oregon based musician, producer and master level wizard, has been creating music as King Black Acid since the late ‘80s. Riddle began KBA’s long and winding musical journey as a bedroom project while serving as the bassist for the seminal Portland punk act Hitting Birth. Soon the project began to take on a life of its own developing into a fully realized, ever evolving, powerhouse of neo-psyche rock and birthing a multiplicity of sonic universes in the ears and minds of those open to experiences beyond the realm of the ordinary. With four studio albums, a multitude of singles and original musical score for productions such as The Mothman Prophecies, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, CSI and revered live performances, King Black Acid has become a Portland legend – an act that consistently recreates itself by breaking stifling musical parameters all the while managing to throw so many catchy hooks that any attempts at escape are rendered useless. King Black Acid and The Rainbow Lodge is the full name of the current KBA line up, and, as always, consists of Riddle (who provides most of the writing, guitar, voice and production) along with a group of skilled players handpicked to bring this music to its ultimate expression. Each incarnation of KBA’s reign is constructed to play to the strengths of the assembled personnel (notable former members from a long list of luminaries include Scott Adamo of The Wipers, Joseph Trump of Pigface and Elliot Sharp’s Carbon, Nathon Jorg of Snowbud and the Flower People, Dan Eccles of Richmond Fontaine and Fernando and Jeff Trapp of Everclear), displaying a sound uniquely its own and simultaneously one that is bound by Riddle’s emotionally charged songwriting and his signature approach to sonic creation. Fittingly, each materialization of King Black Acid has been marked by a different band name – a typographical signpost directing the unconscious to aural worlds beyond our own.
From 1995’s KBA and the Womb Star Orchestra’s lush, epic, long form jams that cemented the outfit’s place in the Space Rock Hall Of Fame and entranced all the whacked out kids in the underground of the Pacific Northwest and beyond, to the tightly refined psyche sounds of the turn of the millennium manifestation KBA and The Starseed Transmission, through the dark soundtrack work of KBA and the 144,000 Piece Acid Army, to the current line-up, the strange and beautiful sounds from Riddle’s heart, mind and soul pour out of the King Black Acid laboratory directly into the bloodstream.
King Black Acid and The Rainbow Lodge featuring Rich Landar and Jonathan Moore on keys, Jordan Ruback on drums, Bryan Owens on guitar, and Erik Mimnaugh on bass are currently at work on the 5th official King Black Acid studio album, an EP entitled Twin Flames, slated for a Spring 2017 split release on legendary Portland label Cavity Search Records and Riddle’s Mazinga Records imprint).

Being tied to the Norwegian Black Metal scene of the 90's, the band became a favorite amongst metal listeners who dabbled in ambient, and for good reason. Using synthesizers, tribal drums, chanting and sinister field recordings taken from haunted houses, forests, cemeteries, various types of occult rituals and then pairing this with the evil laughter or shrieking of Nebelhexë, the band's music is often described as unnerving or disturbing).

A classically-trained vocalist, Kristin works with a variety of media and technology to create dense works harnessing the tech-mediated or acoustically extended voice, and is inspired by vernacular extreme forms such as black metal, power electronics, and harsh noise as well as sacred and liturgical music.
Her solo project LINGUA IGNOTA explores violence and gender in extreme music through a morally ambiguous, emotionally/physically intense performance practice that has been described as “crushing”).

Marching on to final victory

Ever effective in their use of crushing orchestrations and evocative speeches, the band hereby drags the listener around muddy trenches, and casts a hypnotizing veil over the turmoil of warfare-inspired Industrial soundscapes.
Spearheaded by Henry Möller and Marten Björkman, Arditi first came to light in 1997, inspired by the Italian Futurist Movement of the early 20th century. But given both members' involvement in other projects (such as Puissance and Algaion), it was not until 2002 that the first recorded output would come to be released. The limited edition 7" EP Unity Of Blood (Svartvintras Productions, 2002) earned the project praise and admiration. This was followed by their debut album, Marching On To Victory (Svartvintras Productions, 2003) and a split CD United In Blood (Neuropa Records, 2004), shared with the Swedish Toroidh, and then Spirit Of Sacrifice (Blooddawn Productions, 2005) and Standards Of Triumph (Equilibrium Music, 2006).

Toroidh is Henrik Nordvargr Björkk's martial industrial side project. Ceased to exist in date 23 January 2015 with this public announcement divulged by Henrik himself: "After almost 14 years of existence it is time to retire Toroidh. It has been a rough ride, but also a great one. Of all the musical projects I/we have been involved with, this must be the most misunderstood one. This is actually one of the reasons we are terminating it. We refuse to let the music become a vehicle of politics. We thought that naming the debutalbum “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it” and calling the tracks “Never again I-IX” would be an indicator that the music was not glorifying any specific standpoint, but we were wrong. Let it be known once and for all that the music of Toroidh dealt mostly (but not exclusively) with the turmoil of Europe during the world wars, but it was intended as a soundtrack to the stupidity, wars and chaos - not a political standpoint).

Together they produced three albums: Fork You and Division Zero first, and The Talas Of Satan after signing with Apathia Records. Composed by two people in studio, Hardcore Anal Hydrogen’s music has imposed a restructuring of the groupe for the stage. Damien (drums) and Jonathan (Bass) completed the lineup, allowing live performances. Although the roots of Hardcore Anal Hydrogen are in metal and contemporary music, Hardcore Anal Hydrogen’s music covers many genres. Constantly changing songs structures and eclecticism are a constant since the creation of the band).

Le félin envoyé de l'enfer est né

Chords emerged from hell in stochastic form.

(The band started in Clermont-Ferrand, France, with Ban Bardiaux and Aymeric Thomas in 2000 during high school. Aymeric played drums on Ban's classical piano songs then they were joined by two musicians : Simon Gastaud on bass (who would later play in the band Format) and Jack Bardiaux, Ban’s brother, on guitars. To rehearse, the band found a good place in Aymeric’s mum cattery, among around 30 cats who often pissed on their amplifiers and bassdrums. In their hometown, they had a solid reputation for being a band that smelt like cat piss and ammonia. Which was true.
For many years, the band played a bunch of gigs in France until the release of their very first listenable demo "Pump up the pectine" in 2005.

Then, Nicolas Sénac on guitars and Alex Peronny on bass/cello joined the band. The band was featured on the Ulver Tribute "My own wolf" (on Aspherical Asphyxia/Cold Dimensions Records) in 2007.
They worked for 4 years to produce the first full-lenght album "Rococo Holocaust" in 2010, mostly composed by the pianist Ban. The album was mastered by Tom Kvalsvoll from Strype Audio in Oslo, Norway. Alex left Pryapisme soon after, and the band continued for 3 years as a trio. They also recorded a music soundtrack ordered for the videogame documentary "Tournament of Legends".

The years 2012/2013 were a turning point : they moved from their rehearsal room to another place, still in the cattery but in a safe zone (i.e. without cats). Since then, Aymeric has been handling most of the composing and arrangements with computer softwares. They turned their place into a bigger home-studio to record the instrument tracks and to rehearse. The "Plimptphlymst Studio" is now cat-proof and better equipped !
In 2012, they also met Simon Capony, the sound-engineer from Basalte-Studio who has mastered most of their releases since then.
Thanks to "Rococo Holocaust", the band was contacted by Apathia Records and signed their first record deal.

In 2013, they released their second album "Hyperblast Supercollider" and a tape of chiptune music from their two first albums "Blastbit Rococollider" in 2014. A first musicvideo came out : "Un druide est giboyeux lorsqu'il se prend pour un neutrino". It made over a million views on YouTube before being removed due to less than a second of nudity content.
