កិត្តិយសដល់ព្រលឹងដ៏សប្បុរស

(Dengue Fever is a northamerican band from Los Angeles who combine Cambodian rock and pop music of the 1960's and 70's with psychedelic rock and other world music styles; the band was formed in the late 1990's, when keyboardist Ethan Holtzman discovered Cambodian psychedelic rock music while traveling in that country. Coincidentally, his guitarist brother Zac Holtzman had discovered the same music while working at a record store.

The brothers formed Dengue Fever in 2001 to perform songs recorded by Cambodian artists like Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Serey Sothea, Pen Ran, and others, most of whom died or disappeared during the Khmer Rouge regime. The band first recruited bassist Senon Williams, saxophonist/flutist David Rallicke, and drummer Paul Smith.  The band then decided to add a vocalist who could sing the Khmer lyrics of the Cambodian songs they hoped to play, and auditioned singers in the Little Phnom Penh area of Long Beach. The band selected Chhom Nimol, who had previously been a well-known singer in Cambodia before emigrating to the United States).

Cambodian Soul Sounds is a Cambodian Garage/Beat/Soul compilation, tracks were picked up by DJ & Producer Richard Rossa in Cambodia 2014 (most of them totally unknown).

The music scene in Cambodia during the 50s - 70s was swinging hard; musicans of the era were influenced by western rhythm & blues, rock n' roll and music from Latin America. The combination of styles and culture created a truly unique touch to the vivid rock music of Cambodia. With incredible recordings from the late 60's and early 70's, Cambodian rock scene range from mad garage-band rave-ups to mystic go-go organ/fuzz guitar, with exotic female singers.

Megapost with this amazing dignity keepers and art heroes; a special gift to my friend VAL9000 and all people interesting in the meaning of life.

The Past Must Not Be Erased

This album is collecting awesome pre-1975 Cambodian rock classics on gatefold double vinyl. In the years before Pol Pot's notoriously hardline and anti-Western Khmer Rouge regime altered the history of Cambodia forever, there was a flourishing, anarchic and vital rock scene centred in the capital Phnom Penh. Sadly (as i said in previous posts) some of the artists featured, notably Sinn Sisamouth "The Emperor of Khmer Music" and Ros Sereysothea "The Golden Voice of the Royal Capital" couldn't escape the brutal regime and were executed because of their involvement with the Khmer rock scene. This record captures the thrilling soulfulness of their music from a number of tapes and old vinyl which have survived at enormous risk to their owners, making this one of the most definitive collections of early Cambodian rock music. (searching for vols. 1 & 3 of the collection, any help?)

One Tribute For The Dead In The Name Of Inhumanity (Repost)

The Khmer Rouge reached Phnom Penh and took power in 1975. The regime, led by Pol Pot, changed the official name of the country to Democratic Kampuchea. They immediately evacuated the cities and sent the entire population on forced marches to rural work projects. They attempted to rebuild the country's agriculture on the model of the 11th century, discarded Western medicine, and destroyed temples, libraries, and anything considered Western.

Over a million Cambodians, out of a total population of 8 million, died from executions, overwork, starvation and disease. Estimates as to how many people were killed by the Khmer Rouge regime range from approximately one to three million, with two million (or about one-third of the population) being the most commonly cited figure. This era gave rise to the term Killing Fields, and the prison Tuol Sleng became notorious for its history of mass killing. Hundreds of thousands fled across the border into neighbouring Thailand. The regime disproportionately targeted ethnic minority groups.

All the cambodian people trained in sciences, arts or education were prosecuted, imprisoned and murdered by this bloody regimen, including all the "golden voices" recorded here; it is their legacy to us, music lovers around the globe, we will not forget you!.

Honoring the Goddesses (Repost)

Cambodian rock, pop and psychedelia from the 60s & 70s – compiled by the members of Dengue Fever, LA's modern torchbearers of rare prime rock era rarities from Cambodia! It's wonderful stuff – like a lot of the sounds from the pulpy garage rock era Asian underground, most tunes have love female vocals, but the instrumentation varies from raw r&b & kind of moddish influenced sounds, to more psychedelic electric guitar and hazy melodies, bits of funk, and strains that come closer to traditional Cambodian sounds. The tracks were culled for rare cassette tapes, and the sound quality is top notch – kudos to Dengue Fever for getting doing their influences a solid by getting these great tunes out there!

Ros Sereysothea & Pan Ron, we will not forget you...
