Grey water tears

(Them Are Us Too is the project of Kennedy Ashlyn Wenning and Cash Askew hailing from Santa Cruz, CA. The project originally started with Kennedy making music from a very early age creating a style of "lo-fi noisy bedroom pop", as she states it. This evolved over the years as she set out on her own, even playing a few shows by herself in a sort of "one man band" fashion, sometimes playing guitars and keys at the same time. Cash entered the scene in 2013 some time after seeing one of Kennedy's solo performances when they met through mutual acquaintances at her birthday party. Through various drunken circumstances, she ended up as part of the band at a live show the next day and at that point the duo was formed.

They have gained a cult following within independent music circles as a young, new take on the revered "4AD sound" of dreamy goth-pop anthems. With a nod to 80’s shoegaze sensibilities, Them Are Us Too creates songs about tragedy and loves-lost that draws devoted listeners to their nostalgic and innocent sound. Kennedy Ashlyn Wenning's vocals have been repeatedly compared to Kate Bush, Harriet Wheeler, and Elizabeth Fraser, with a pitch-perfect octave range carrying songs gracefully between optimistic joy down to undisturbed melancholia - all within one moment of verse. Guitarist Cash Askew paints a layered and complex backdrop using signature reverberation and washes of stringed ambient tones, akin to Robin Guthrie, Ronny Moorings and Kevin Shields.

Unfortunately Cash Askew died in the "Ghost Ship" fire in Oakland, California, December of 2016, at age 22).
